are in designing, engineering, and manufacturing highly advanced, compact solid-state radio equipment for use in
the amateur (ham) radio industry. The company's product line has since expanded to include communications equipment
and products based in the marine, avionics, land mobile and wide-band receiver industries.
Icom America was founded in 1979. With the exception of our friends in Canada and Cuba, Icom America is
responsible for representing Icom products within the entire Western Hemisphere, as well to U.S. Territories in
the Pacific.
Read about Icom's commitment to providing excellent
quality and reliability in all of our amateur, aviation, land mobile, marine and wide band
receiver products.
Amateur
Icom is a world leader in the amateur radio market. Also known as ham radio, Icom makes amateur radios for use
in long-range (HF) and short-range (VHF, UHF) communications. Digital technology is transforming the market,
and Icom helped pioneer the development of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) equipment. Icom is also a leader
in product development for the D-STAR digital mode, a global open protocol that is on the cutting edge in
Amateur Radio today. From the IC-7800 (the most technologically advanced HF amateur rig ever made) to the
IC-80AD (Icom’s most affordable handheld D-STAR radio), count on Icom to help amateur radio operators
everywhere get the most out of their hobby.
Aviation
Pilots all over the world trust Icom for their air-band communications. The hand-held air-band radio
market was dominated by Icom early on, and that domination continues today with Icom’s popular IC-A24
series. Hand-held air-band radios pay for themselves by allowing pilots to keep in touch with the tower
and conduct other in-plane activity without running the engine. In-panel air-band radios are also an
Icom specialty, and the IC-A210 offers the latest in easy-to-use features and cutting-edge technology,
like having the first OLED display. For the best in air-band communications, Icom remains the name
pilots know and trust.
Land Mobile
The land mobile communications industry is vast, covering everything from military and public safety
radios to everyday business 2-way equipment like you’d find in a retail store. Icom America’s land
mobile division is its youngest – and its largest.
Icom is deeply committed to P25, the North American digital standard for public safety communications
interoperability. Icom’s latest P25 radios now offers P25 trunking, bringing more functionality to this
growing product line.
Icom is also devoted to IDAS™, its analog + digital line of land mobile radio equipment. IDAS™
uses the NXDN™ protocol to bring next-generation digital capabilities to the industry, all while retaining analog
legacy performance. IDAS is all about making today’s radios more functional and a better value than ever before.
In 2003, offering a complete turnkey communication solution was a rarity in the land mobile market. Icom
America Systems (IAS) was launched to meet the needs of an unmet demand. Today, IAS is responsible for a
large part of Icom America’s total business. Whether you need an off-the-shelf repeater or a full, custom-built
system setup, IAS is bringing communications system solutions to commercial radio managers and owners all over
North America and the Caribbean.
Marine
Icom has won more awards for their marine communications equipment than any other manufacturer. Commercial
mariners and boating enthusiasts alike covet Icom marine radios for their legendary durability and ease of use.
Icom's marine equipment includes long range, ship-to-shore, single side-band (SSB) transceivers for worldwide
communications and the best in shorter range VHF marine communications. In addition, Icom was the first
manufacturer to produce highly advanced, very compact, hand-held VHF marine transceivers that are not only
are submersible, but also float. Now Icom is poised to launch a new suite of cutting-edge navigation
equipment like no other. Mariners everywhere have trusted Icom to “talk to there”, now they'll be able to
trust Icom to “guide them there”.
Wide-band Receivers
Icom's communication receivers range from small, pocketsize handhelds like the IC-R6 to top-of-the-line,
super wide-range receivers like the IC-R9500. Icom also developed the unique black box receiver that turns
just about any PC into a wide-band receiver. The modern-day equivalent of that first black-box receiver is
the compact IC-R1500, which operates as easily in a mobile setting as it does at home on a PC. For the latest
in wide-band receiver technology, Icom has what both the listening enthusiast and the professional need.
